Common And Rare Complications Associated with Hypernatremic Dehydration

The study was done on 436 patient out of 2089 cases admitted to Gastroenteritis Unit (ICU & ward)- Children's Hospital, Cairo university, in a retrospective manner with ages ranging from 1 month to 12 years, who suffered from hypernatremic diarrheal dehydration. Different types of complications among hypernatremic patients were identified. Hypernatremia was observed in (20.9%) versus all other electrolyte imbalances among the admitted patients. The incidence of each electrolyte imbalance among admitted cases was calculated, and hypernatremia was observed to have a significant occurrence in (20.9%) of admitted patients and was dominating over all.
